Sedation / Sleep Dentistry

A safe way to experience anxiety free dental work...

With sedation dentistry, the professionals at Kearbey Dental Group can help remove the sense of dread or anxiety you may have about visiting the dentist or having dental work completed.

At your appointment you can experience a drowsy feeling and be unaware of the time passing--while still having the complete dental care you need.  Our office is certified to offer three types of sedation--custom-tailored for each patient,--depending upon the extent of your anxiety or desired comfort.

Our doctors and staff have completed specialized training to offer these sedation options.  The dentists at Kearbey Dental Group are certified by the Dental Board of California to offer oral and intravenous sedation; our office is tested on a regular basis to meet their standards.  We take patient comfort seriously.  You can check the status of our certification here:  http://www.dbc.ca.gov/verification/index.html.  Select "Conscious Sedation Permit" which covers the ability to perform Oral Sedation as well.  Search for Ryan or Robert Kearbey.

Three methods of sedation listed by increasing effect

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as "laughin gas," nitrous oxide is used to induce a state of relaxation.  This is the lightest form of sedation available at Kearbey Dental Group and permits simple procedures to be completed with increased comfort.  After nitrous oxide administration, patients can drive home and carry on with normal daily function.

Oral Sedation

Medication, in the form of pills taken orally, are prescribed for the patient and taken 30 minutes prior to their appointment.  These medications decrease anxiety and often induce a mild amnesia--allowing little memory of the dental visit.  This creates a level of sedation that is slightly deeper than that of nitrous oxide, but is still very safe and allows many patients to complete dental work they may have considered impossible before considering sedation dentistry.  Patients receiving oral sedation are not permitted to drive before or after the dental procedure; they must be escorted by a responsible adult.

Intravenous Sedation

Medications are administered through an IV, allowing us to keep patients comfortable throughout the procedure with added safety.  Unlike oral sedation, IV sedation works instantly; we can modifty the medications to each patient's response and needs.  Patients receiving intravenous sedation are not permitted to drive before or after the dental procedure; they must be escorted by a responsible adult.

Fewer than 1% of dentists are certified to administer this form of sedation. We believe this is on of the most effective forms of sedation, offering the greatest control for your comfort.
