Fillings
The Diagnosis
A dentist will diagnose fillings when a small amount of decay is present on a tooth. It is not common for decay to be causing any discomfort at this time but that does not mean that it isn't important to have the filling done. If waited on, the treatment will need to be more extensive.
The Treatment
As a patient, you have options regarding what kind of fillings that you would like to have. We almost always place tooth colored fillings since this is more pleasing to most patients. We can replace your silver fillings with tooth colored fillings if you would like a more natural look.
Amalgam or silver fillings can be placed as well. They cost less and sometimes are the preferred treatment depending on the type of cavity. There is no evidence that there is danger from the mercury present in the filling, amalgam fillings are a safe and effective option.
If you are apprehensive about dental treatment, let us know. We have many options to relieve your anxiety, from nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to oral and conscious sedation.
